11 TECHNICAL PROPERTIES OF LAMINATED WOOD MATERIALS and POSSIBILITIES OF USING THEM IN WOODWORKING INDUSTRY (Ph.D. Thesis) Hakan KESKİN GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY SEPTEMBER 2001 ABSTRACT In this study, it is aimed to ascertain and determine the technical properties of laminated wood materials which people have just started to use them in the woodworking industry in our country. For this purpose, the laminated wood materials prepared in the form of four layers from Cedrus libani A. Rich., Pinus sylvestrish., Fagus orientalis Lipsky and Quercus petrea L. woods which are used commonly in Turkey have been glued by using PVAc-D4 type adhesive which were strengthened by adding the hardener (Dorus R.397). In the experiments, by taking the influence factors (type of wood, rate of hardening material, environment for it to wait, type of procedure) into con sideration, the density, the thermic swelling coefficient, thermal conductivity coefficiend, working amount, compression strengths, cleavage and bursting, sticking strengths and modulus of elasticity were determined with using totaly 2064 samples. At the end of the experiments, it has been proven that the technological properties of the laminated wood materials have more superior values than the solid wood materials which were representing their kinds.
