Language learning strategies employed by postgraduate students of social sciences and basic / applied sciences at YADIM

This study is designed to identify individual metacognitive, cognitive and social/affective strategies of postgraduate students of social sciences and basic/applied sciences who study English at YADIM (Centre for Foreign Languages) at Çukurova University. Moreover, the possible differences in the strategy type and strategy amount between the two groups are also main interest of this study. Forty postgraduate students of social sciences and forty postgraduate students of basic/applied sciences were randomly selected. A strategy inventory questionnaire with close ended items and a standard language proficiency test were administered. The data was collected in two phases and no treatment will be given to the students who participate in this study. The data was analyzed by means of chi-square values calculated on the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).
