Metaphysics of sexual love in Leo Tolstoi's "The Kreutzer Sonata"

The main purpose of this work is to analyze Tolstoy's Kreutzer Sonata as an example of Fin de Siècle literature. How Schopenhauer's body design as a will on a literary level is examined. While conducting this study, Tolstoy's philiosophical aspects and the dynamics of contemporary literature are analyzed in comparsion with the dominant literary works in Europe. In the first part, the theoretical outlines and Russian cultural life are dealt with. In the theoretical framework, especially the metaphysics of love, which is the primary source we use in Schopenhauer's body description and work analysis, has been emphasized. The political and cultural changes that led to the writing of the work are examined in detail. In the second part, the religious-based Tolstoy philosophy, the effects of his philosophy, Tolstoy's understanding of art and the reception of Schopenhauer in the Silver Age are examined. In the third part, the work is examined in the context of erotic utopia understanding arising from the concept of willingness of Schopenhauer in Russian literature. While the changing gender roles of men and women are mentioned in detail in the literature of the period, these roles are exemplified from the Works of J. K. Huysmans and Oscar Wilde. A comparative review is made with Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, which handles similar problematics. The Metaphysics of Love ensured to the discussion of classical values fort he first time on the Russian literary level. Thus, style diversity is born and Russian literature experienced its brightest period during the transition from Golden Age to Silver Age. In the context of the Metaphysics of Love, the work vi that reflects the changing family and sexuality understanding of the period with its most distinctive lines was Kreutzer Sonata.
