Solar energy has lots of application areas. Especially because of depleation of fossil energy sources, the usage of alternative energy sources such as solar energy, gained more importance. Building and usage water heating with solar energy are just mostly used applications. In addition to this, nowadays using solar energy for cooling is just mostly used application. Cooling system is one of the most important solar energy aplications. Especially, if the system is going to be used both for heating (in winter) and cooling (in summer), is to be rather economic. Absorption systems are used for cooling and heating with solar energy. In absorption systems thermal energy obtained from various energy sources, can be used directly to generate cooling effect. Absorption refrigeration systems are more economical than vapour compression systems, since in the previous one heat energy is used rather than electrical. In a Li-Br/ water system it is not possible to cool below 0°C. However, in this system hot water or waste steam can be used, and thus it can be applied for cooling purposes. In this study, firstly solar energy heating systems were examined, the calculation methods for thermal usage were explained, and then equations were given. After that, absorption coolers used in solar energy systems were explained. The properties of the Li-Br/ water fluid couples widely used in absorption cooling system were given, and the system was designed. Every absorption system parts were analized, and the cooling system was modelled. The natural gas cooling system which is widely used nowadays, and it?s advantages were explained shortly. In the last part, as an application, a the cooling loads and heating losses were calculated carrefully for a three level villa. The solar collector capacity value was calculated for hot usage water. Then for different collector types the efficiency values were calculated and compared. The absorption system with Li-Br/ water was designed, and the number of collectors necessary to supply the required heat for generator from solar energy were calculated.
