Abstract (EN)

The research area, located in the north of the African continent and in the Mediterranean basin, has important geographical features. Libya got its name from the Libo tribe who settled in this region centuries ago. It is known that the name Libya was first used by the Greeks. With this study, a comprehensive basic scientific knowledge base of Libya, which offers diversity in natural and human environmental conditions, has been established. In this way, the literature on the field makes up for the lack of information. These stages constitute the method and material part of the research area. After the literature review, the location, physical, slope, geology, morphology, climate, soil, land use, population and political maps of the site were prepared with Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing. Office studies were carried out by overlapping the data in the thesis writing process with the publications. Throughout history, the research area has been divided into three as Tripoli in the north and west, Cyrenaica in the east, and Fezzan in the south. Libya as a whole is a cratonic basin located on the northern margins of the African Shield. Rocks belonging to various geological times are widely seen in the area. The main morphological units in the study area are coastal plains, mountain ranges, plateau areas, desert areas and individual hills. The surface area of Libyan lands is approximately 1,759,540 km². Deserts cover 95% of the land in Libya. There are various climatic features in the research area. In general, the Mediterranean climate of the narrow parts of the coastal belt, followed by the semi-arid and desert climate is observed in most of the area. It is seen that the study area, which has a diverse ethnic and linguistic structure, has an economically rich underground. Due to the diversity of both the natural environment and the human environment, it has been invaded by many. In order to use the study area in a sustainable way, natural skis must be used effectively. Keywords: Mediterranean Basin, Libya Geography, Arab Spring, Oil Fields, Africa.
