Abstract (EN)
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common metabolic disorder in obstetrics, associated with an increased risk of pregnancy complications. GDM affects 9–25% of pregnancies globally, with prevalence rising alongside maternal age. The condition is linked to glucose metabolism issues, including glucosuria, polyhydramnios, abnormal fetal weight gain, and macrosomia. This study investigates the role of resistin, a proinflammatory adipokine, and other biochemical parameters in women with GDM. A toplam of 90 women, aged 18–41, participated in a case-control study, with 45 women diagnosed with GDM and 45 healthy controls of the same age group. Resistin levels were measured using the ELISA method, while other variables were assessed via absorbance photometry. Results indicated higher levels of resistin, fasting blood glucose (FBG): HbA1c, 2-hour blood glucose (2hrBG): serum insulin, toplam cholesterol (TC): triglycerides (TG): LDL, VLDL, and body mass index (VKİ) in women with GDM compared to controls. HDL levels were found to be lower in the GDM group. A correlation matrix showed positive correlations between FBG and 2hrBG, as well as TC and TG, LDL, and VLDL, with a negative correlation between HDL and LDL. These findings suggest that elevated resistin, insulin, FBG, HbA1c levels, and impaired glucose tolerance after two hours are characteristic features of GDM and may serve as diagnostic markers for this condition.
