A study on the effect of leadership approach to employee motivation for the corresponding public sector

Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was studied the availability of an interaction between motivation and leadership styles of the people working in public sector. The universe of the study is thr public sector in Asian side of İstanbul city. The sample of the study consist of 24 schools, 1 judicial court and 1 tax office. A questionnaire was held with 805 individuals working in above mentioned public corporations, and results were statistically analyzed. Statements gathered by the survey were undergone functional analysis, and resultant 3 leadership styles and 5 motivational factors were identified. Leadership styles are humanistic – democratic, bureaucratic and autocratic leadership styles. One of the five motivation functions was related to the study and was called leader-related motivational factor and the relation to three leadership styles was identified by correlation matrix. It was defined a relation between each of three leadership styles and leadership-related motivational factor. It was also questioned a relation between demographic features of the surveyed and the three leadership styles together with leader-related motivation. It was also defined a relation between leader –related motivation and features based on age and the year in the corporation.
