The effects of the method of instruction supported with computer on the success of high school ninth class students at the subject of cell division in biology class

m ABSTRACT In this study, it is investigated that the impacts of the method of instruction supported with computer that the way of compared with traditional method of instruction on the understanding of the students who are in the first class of the high school about the subject of the cell division and their success in the biology course. The fieldwork of this study was made in the spring term of 2003-2004 academic year. The sample of this study was constituted by the students who are at the different two classes in which the same biology teacher study the biology in Ankara Atatürk Anadolu High School And the population of the sample consisted of 49 students. In the fieldwork, while the subject of the cell division is applied to control group by the way of traditional method of instruction, the same subject is applied to experiment group by the way of method of instruction supported with computer. Also in this fieldwork, the pattern of pre-test and post-test were applied to control group. Then the data of this fieldwork was gathered by the using two way scales: the test for capacity of logical thinking as a pre-test, and the test for success in the learning of the cell division as both pre-test and post-test. In addition to these, it was used that independent samples t-test and paired samples t-test in order to test the hypotheses of this study. The data that gathered from the fieldwork is also analyzed by the using SPSS (Statistical Packet for the Social Science). Consequently, the outcomes of the analyzing of the data that were tested statistically are these:IV 1. The students who constitute the experiment group and are instructed by the way of the method of instruction supported with computer are more successful than those who constitute the control group and are instructed by the way of the traditional method of instruction regarding the subject of the learning of the cell division. 2. It may be said that the method of the instruction supported with computer is more effective than the traditional one in the subject of the learning of cell division considering the outcomes of the fieldwork.
