Investigation of the appropriateness of the 9 th grade physics curriculum on the progression of the students scientific process skills

This study was carried out to obtain whether 9th grade physics lessons progress the scientific process skills; which facilitate the learning in science, progress the sense of responsibility in students' own learnings, increase students' participation in the class and effective learnings or not. In this study, the answers is searched for following six question: 1. Which process skills of the first year students are the Anotolian high school, public high school and super high school successful in improving? 2. Is there significant difference between the results of scientific process skills test of two high schools which are socioeconomically different ? 3. Is there any significant difference between the results of scientific process skills test that were taken by female and male students? 4. What do physics teachers think about scientific process skills of students which were successful at first year physics? 5. What do physics teachers think about the first year physics course in terms of scientific process skills? 6. How often do physics teachers use student oriented labaratory activities ?IV For 1st, 2nd and 3rd problems scientific process skills measurement test is developed and applied to total 80 students from a super high school, 2 public high school, and one anodolu high school equally from each. Randomly selected 20 student of each first test and final test was compared by t-test. For 4th, 5th and 6th questions, a likert type inquiry was developed and applied to 30 physics teachers. Results were evaluated by SPSS statistics program. As a result of this research, scientific process skills of sample group students were not developed enough in their education life before high school and it is conluded that first year physics course is not sufficient to improve their scientific process skills.Key words : Physics Teaching, Scientific Process Skills, 9th Grade Physics lesson
