A study of the relationship between the perceived social support and the psychological stamina in high school students: The Başakşehir case

Abstract (EN)

The primary objective of the research is to study the Rrelationship between the perceived social support and the psychological stamina in high school students. The sampling of the reaserch consists of 301 students in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 in such high schools as Başakşehir Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu Lisesi, TOKİ Celalettin Ökten Anadolu İmam Hatip Lisesi and Armağan Anadolu Lisesi during the 2015-2016 academic year in the Başakşehir borough of Istanbul. The research design was based on a screening model and the data were collected through a personal details form, a scale of adolescent psychological stamina, and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). The data were analyzed on the IBM SPSS Statistics 20 program by using independent samples t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Post-hoc Scheffe test, LSD multiple pairwise comparisons, Tamhane's T2, and Pearson Correlation Analysis. The significance was tested at a minimum level of p<,05. The findings were presented in tables and figures. The Pearson Correlation Analysis indicates that the relationship between the perceived social support and the psychological stamina is statistically significant (r=0,401; p<0,01). The perceived social support in girls is greater than the one in boys. The perceived social support in students in garde 9 is greater than the one in students in grades 10 and 11. The psychological stamina in students in grades 9 and 12 is greater than the one in grade 11. The psychological stamina in students in Armağan Anadolu high school is gretaer than the one in TOKİ Celalettin Ökten Anadolu İmam Hatip high school and Başakşehir Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu high school. The perceived social support in students whose mothers have a diploma from a secondary school or higher is greater than that the one in students whose mothers have a diploma from a primary school or lower. The perceived social support in students from families with average and high income is greater than the one in students with low income. The perceived social support in students with 4 sisters/brothers or more is greater than the one in students with 3 sisters/brothers or less.
