Examination of the relationship between sportsmanship, self-efficacy and psychological resilience of high school students

Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of the research is to examine the relationship between sportsmanship, self-efficacy and Psychological resilience in high school students. Material and method: The study group consisted of 605 students studying in two state secondary schools in the central districts of Gaziantep province in 2016-2017 academic year. In the study "Physical Education Course Sportsmanship Behavior Scale", "Self-efficacy Scale for Children", "Child and Youth Resilience Measure" and personal information form created by the researcher were used. The scores obtained by the students from the scales were examined according to the independent variables according to the normality test (t-test, ANOVA) and the relationship between sportsmanship values and self-efficacy and psychological resilience of students (Pearson) was examined. Results: It was found that sportsmanship behaviors of students differ significantly by gender, by sports contact status. It was found that self-efficacy of students differ significantly by gender, by grade, joining in school sports teams, by school achievement, by family economic level and by type of sport. It was found that psychological resilience of students differ significantly by grade, by joining in school sports teams, by school achievement, by sports contact status, by playing in school sports teams, by school achievement, by family economic level. It was found that there was a weak significant positive correlation between the total sportsmanship scores of the students with the general self-efficacy (r=.12, p<0.05) and psychological resilience (r=.08, p<0.05) of the students. Conclusion: Consequently, it was understood that students' self-efficacy perceptions and psychological resilience were found to be related to their sportsmanship behaviors. It is believed that implementing activities to improve students' self-efficacy and psychological resilience will be beneficial in improving sportsmanship behaviors of students.
