High school students' perceptions of physical education and sports teachers and physical education and sports lesson metaphoric analysis

High School Students' Perceptions of Physical Education and Sports Teachers and Physical Education and Sports Lesson Metaphoric Analysis The aim of this study is to reveal the perceptions of high school students by analyzing their metaphorical analysis of their perceptions towards physical education and sports teachers and physical education and sports lessons. In this study, phenomenology (phenomenology), one of the qualitative research designs, was used. Working group in the 2019-2020 academic year; It consists of a total of 440 students, 228 female and 212 male, from 3 different high schools, Erzincan High School, Erzincan Science High School and Erzincan Anatolian High School, 9, 10, 11 and 12, which are affiliated to the Provincial Directorate of National Education in the center of Erzincan. Research data is like "Physical education teacher ……. Because ……" and "Physical education and sports lessons are like ……. Because ……" is obtained by completing the sentences. It is limited to the opinions and thoughts expressed by high school students themselves. The analysis of the data consisted of the stages of "naming, classifying, developing a category, ensuring validity and reliability, and transferring the data to the computer environment".440 students participating in the study produced 200 different metaphors for physical education teachers and 226 different metaphors for physical education and sports lessons. In the research, positive metaphors were produced for physical education and sports teachers (419, % 92.85), for physical education and sports lessons (409, % 90.53), for physical education and sports teachers (30, % 7.15), (39, % 9.53) negative metaphors were produced for education and sports lessons. According to the number of usage, for the physical education teacher, "gold (20), father (20), sun (14), ice (12), mother (10), water (9), iron (8), rose (8), angel (8), friend (7), diamond (7), cotton (7), flower (6) '' metaphors were used. When the conceptual categories to which the produced metaphors are examined, the most common ones for teachers' physical education teachers are "Physical Education Teacher as the Expression of Values and Emotions (f = 86, % 20.52)", "Physical Education Teacher as an Element of Love (f = 51, % 12.17)", While producing metaphors belonging to the categories of "Physical Education Teacher as a Guide and Creator (f = 46, % 10.97)", according to the number of usage, "life (16), sport (16), game (13), water (12), gold (11), entertainment (11), therapy (10), exercise (8), entertainment (6) '' metaphors were used. When the conceptual categories that the produced metaphors belong to are examined, the most common ones for physical education and sports lessons are "Physical Education and Sports as Entertainment (f = 70, % 17.11)", "Physical Education and Sports as a Source of Health and Peace (f = 66, %16.13) "," Physical Education and Sports Lesson as Excitement, Relaxation and Rest (f = 62, % 15.15) ", it was determined that they produced metaphors. As a result of the study, suggestions that are thought to be beneficial are presented below. • In such studies, metaphor can be used as an effective tool for people to explain and produce their own ideas and feelings. • Similar studies can be applied to administrators in schools and institutions affiliated to the National Education and to administrators and academicians in higher education institutions. • The causes of negative perceptions towards physical education and sports teachers and their lessons can be revealed by conducting more qualified and up-to-date studies. • In-service trainings can be provided, offering up-to-date and the best solutions, in order to eliminate and minimize the causes of these perceptions. • Considering such researches, the programs in teacher training institutions can be reviewed in the most appropriate and best way, and their deficient and inadequate aspects can be arranged in an up-to-date manner.
