The relationship between high school students' 21st century skills acquired through digital games and game addiction

With technological developments, the concept of digital games has emerged today and it has been observed that individuals are turning to digital games. It is stated in the literature that individuals can gain 21st century skills through digital games. At the same time, it has been mentioned that excessive and uncontrolled use of digital games leads to digital game addiction. The aim of this study is to measure high school students' perceptions of 21st century skills they acquire through digital games and their digital game addiction. This study was based on the relational survey model. The study group consisted of 267 high school students, 131 of whom were male and 136 of whom were female. As a result of the study, it was seen that male students' digital game addictions were higher than female students. At the same time, it was seen that male students' perceptions of the 21st century skills they acquired through digital games were higher than female students. According to the other demographic information used in the study, it was seen that high school students' perceptions of 21st century skills acquired through digital games and their digital game addiction levels did not show a significant difference. As a result of the research, the relationship between high school students' perceptions of 21st century skills acquired through digital games and their digital game addictions was examined. The results showed that the relationship between high school students' perceptions of 21st century skills acquired through digital games and their digital game addictions was positive and at a low level.
