The study of the academic success and emotional i̇ntelligence of high school students in accordance with some demographic variables

The purpose of this study is to determine if there can be any corelation between emotional intelligence and academic success. In addition, it aims if emotional intelligence can change in accordance with some demograpgic variables. In line with this target, the universe of research comprises of high school students in İstanbul, at Avcılar region; while the samples are the tenth, eleventh, twelfth-grader educating at Avcılar Gümüşpala Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School and Süleyman Nazif Anatolian High School. While evaluating their emotional intelligence level, Emotional Intelligence Scale of Reuven Bar-On was based on. In order to assess academic success, grade point average of the students were preferred. In analysis of acquired data, Ki-Kare and Kruskal-Wallis Tests were used. Within this scope, the study is at fourth category. At first category, composes of theoritic skeleton. At this section, emotion and intelligence, which are the components of emotional intelligence, were explained and were analyzed the corelation between emotion and intelligence, the definition of it, its historical development with emotional intelligence models. Besides, the corelation between emotional intelligence and academic success were studied and some scientific works about them were examined in detail. It gives us information about the methods of the study, the models of it, the universe and the samples of it, data collection tools, data analysis, at second category. The third category is part of findings; the have been revealed. Finally section is the conclusions section. In this section, findings are compared with other studies. As a result of the research, there have not been a statistically significant relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement. Furthermore, some findings were obtained that there were no significant differences between demographic characteristics and emotional intelligence.
