Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to determine the problems which the students encounter in explaining themselves in the four skills of the foreign language although they have been attending English lessons from the second in primary till the end of the high school. In the study, descriptive research method has been used in general screening model. The target population of the study consists of 720 students which are attending the three high schools in Kaynarca district of Sakarya. As the data collection tool, "Developing a Self Efficacy Scale for English" created by Bümen and Yanar (2012) was applied. Analysis of the data obtained in the study showed that the data were not normalized according to the Kolmogorov-Smimnov and Shapiro-Wilk normality test results (p <0,05). In cases where the normality assumption is not met, nonparametric analysis methods are utilized. Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis and Spearman Row Correlation Coefficient analysis methods were used to analyze data using a SPSS package program. Findings in the study are given below; 1. There is no statistical difference by gender in the dimensions of reading and listening in scale. For these two dimensions it can be said female students' proficiency levels are statistically more than male students. There are no statistical differences by gender in the dimensions writing and speaking. 2. There is statistical difference in the scale's all sub-size according to the class levels. These differences are among the 9.-10.class, 9.-12.class, 10.-11.class, 10-12.class, 11.-12.class. While the tenth grade students' scores are the highest, the twelth grade students' scores are the lowest. 3. There is significant statistical difference according to the location of the primary school which the students graduated in all sub-dimensions of the scale. According to the emerged differences the students who were graduated from while the students' scores in the district are the highest, the scores of the province school students' scores are the lowest. 4. There are statistical differences in all sub dimensions of the scale according to the type of the school. The emerged differences are among the students of the Anatolian High School and the other high school students. Also for the sub dimensions of writing and speaking there is a favor difference for the vocational high school students compared to the imam hatip high school students. 5. There is a statistical difference in the scale according to the location of the residence of the students in the sub dimensions of reading, listening and speaking. The resulting difference in reading, listening and speaking are between the students who reside in district and who reside in the village. Also for the writing dimension in the scale, the scores do not differ according to their location of residence. 6. There is a statistical difference in the all sub dimensions of the scale according to the students' mothers' educational status. There is a direct proportion in the scale as the more mothers' educational status raises the more the scores rise. 7. There is a statistical difference in the all sub dimensions of the scale according to the students' fathers' educational status. In general, the education level of the father increases, students ' English scores related to self efficacy belief also increases. However, the dimension of the writing in scale does not differ according to their father's educational status. 8.
