Abstract (EN)
The main aim of this research is to explore whether there is a relationship between the technology addiction levels and academic procrastination behaviors of high school students who participate in sports versus those who do not. The study was conducted with students attending high schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in Elazığ/Palu and Kovancılar districts. In order to overcome limitations such as time, cost, and feasibility during the data collection process, a primary data collection method, the survey method, was preferred. The survey includes questions aimed at measuring individuals' demographic characteristics, technology addiction levels, and tendencies towards academic procrastination. The necessary data for the research were obtained from primary data sources, and the data were collected using a structured survey method. The purpose of the study and the content of the survey were first explained to the participating groups through face-to-face interviews. The survey was administered face-to-face with the participants, and after obtaining the necessary legal permissions, it was carried out based on voluntary participation. The analysis of the data obtained from the Academic Procrastination and Technology Addiction Scale was conducted using the SPSS 24 program. Descriptive statistics of the participants, such as frequency distribution, arithmetic mean, and standard deviation, were determined. Assuming normal distribution of the data, parametric tests were used to measure whether there was a significant difference between demographic characteristics and variables. The Independent t-test and one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were applied for this purpose. To examine the cause-and-effect relationship between dependent and independent variables, regression analysis and correlation analysis were utilized. According to the results of this study, demographic variables such as gender, age, grade level, sports participation status, and the type of sport played had different effects on students' perceptions of technology addiction and academic procrastination. Specifically, male students exhibited higher levels of perceptions such as deprivation, impulsivity, and low performance compared to female students, while social isolation perceptions were found to be higher among female students. The age factor is also noteworthy, as students in the 13-14 age group exhibited higher tendencies towards deprivation, impulsivity, low performance, and technology addiction. Furthermore, it was found that 9th-grade students had higher technology addiction tendencies compared to students in other grade levels. Licensed sports participants showed higher tendencies towards factors such as technology addiction and social isolation, but their academic procrastination perceptions were observed to be lower. Students who engaged in team sports displayed higher values in some negative perceptions (such as deprivation, impulsivity, low performance) compared to those who participated in individual sports, but had lower scores in terms of academic procrastination perceptions. This suggests that the type of sport may have different effects on students' psychological and behavioral tendencies. A strong positive relationship was found between technology addiction and academic procrastination, indicating that technology addiction may increase tendencies towards academic procrastination. These findings highlight the importance of the interaction between students' technology use and their academic performance and procrastination behaviors.
