Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study was to investigate differention about high school students' coping skills with stress and forgiveness characteristics regarding different variables. Study was conducted on totally 456 high school students who are studied at Bahçelievler district in İstanbul. Personal Information Inventory which was developed by the researcher was used in order to get the information about the students'sex, type of school, level of class, whether the parents are alive or not, income level of families, education level of parents. Heartland Forgiveness Inventory which was adapted to Turkish by Bugay and Demir (2010) was used in order to assess the forgiveness level of students. Furthermore, in order to determine the level of coping skills of the students participating in the study, "Inventory for Attitudes of Coping with. Stress " which was adopted to the Turkish by Özbay and Şahin (1997) was used. Data was analyzed by conducting Mann Whitney U test, independent samples t-test, Kruskal Wallis test and ANOVA. It was concluded that there was a significant difference between coping scores of the high school students and forgiveness level scores according to their sex. There was a significant difference in terms of coping skills scores according to level of class; but it was determined that there was not a significant difference of grade on the scores of forgiveness. A significant difference was found on the scores of coping skills accorging to type of school; but it was noticed that there was not any significant difference on the level of forgiveness according to type of school. It was found that there was not a significant difference between coping skills of the students with stress and scores on the forgiveness level, according to whether their fathers and mothers are alive or not. There was a significant difference between the scores of the coping skills with stress according to education level of the father but there was not a significant difference level of forgiveness in terms of education level of the father. According to education level of mother, it was found that there was not a significant difference between the level of forgiveness and the scores of coping skills with stress. It was reached that income level of the family did not have a significant effect on the level of forgiveness and scores of coping skills with stress. In the light of the study results, it was discussed about the results of the study and made suggestions for the future researches.
