Perceived social support, exhaustion and job satisfaction of high school teachers (A case study on Bursa)

This study aims to analyze the relationships among variables of the burnout level (Emotional exhaustion, desensitization, personal success and general burnout level), job satisfaction (External satisfaction, internal satisfaction and general satisfaction) and perceived social support (Family support, friend support and general social support) of teachers affecting their work lives. Furthermore, the relation of demographic variables to dependent variables has been researched. Whether averages of dependent variables differentiate or not among the groups formed based on independent variables has been studied. The research has been carried out on 302 (160 female and 142 male) teachers of Ministry of National Education in Bursa. The study population consists of permanent staffs of Anatolian High Schools and Vocational High Schools working for Ministry of National Education in Bursa. In order to collect their socio-demographic data, 'Personal Information Form', 'The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI)', 'Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ)', 'The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS)' have been used in the study. The analysis of data has been performed using SPSS Statistics 23.0 program and 95 % confidence level has been kept. In the end, it has been found that while there is a negative meaningful relationship between social support and exhaustion, there is a positive meaningful relationship between social support and general satisfaction. It has been seen that teachers' perception of social support differentiate with respect to variables of age, marital status, enjoying admiration and type of school; their perception of exhaustion differentiate as well with regard to variables of gender and enjoying admiration.
