Investigation of the relations hipbetween gender perceptionand self-esteem of high school female students

The aim of this study is to reveal the relationships between gender perceptions and self-esteem of female students studying at high school in Istanbul Kartal. In addition, the relationships between students' gender perceptions and self-esteem levels and socio-demographic variables were examined. For this purpose, 380 female students studying at high school in Kartal district of Istanbul were determined as the sample. In the study, first of all, the gender perception levels of female adolescents were determined. Then, it was revealed whether the female students studying in high school differed according to their socio-demographic variables such as school types, grade levels, the place where they spent most of their lives, the income status of the family, educational status, and employment status. Finally, it is explained to what extent it predicts the self-esteem of female students studying at high school. Analysis of the data was carried out using the SPSS 22.0 package program. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and independent sample t-test correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. In the study, Pearson correlation analyzes were performed to determine the relationship between the variables. According to the results of this analysis, it was observed that there was a low level of positive correlation between the Gender Perception Scale and the Self-Esteem Scale. There was a significant relationship between the gender perception and the education level of the mother and father, the working status of the mother, the attitude of the mother, the type of school, age and class level, and perceived income level. The findings were compared with the literature and discussed, and suggestions were made for further research.
