Abstract (EN)
In the branding process, the foundation of corporate identity formation begins with logo design. As one of the most important elements of a brand's visual identity, a logo plays a crucial role in ensuring brand recognition and memorability. In this context, the use of negative space in graphic design is observed to enhance logos both in terms of visual perception and communication, making them stronger and more effective. Historically, negative space has been utilized as a unique and creative form of expression in graphic design, resulting in distinctive, attention-grabbing, and memorable designs. Negative space refers to the empty areas surrounding or between the objects in a design, and when used correctly, it strengthens visual messages. To an untrained design eye, these spaces may appear random, but they are, in fact, consciously and strategically applied. This design approach allows the brand to convey an image of quality, reliability, and creativity, leaving a positive impression on the target audience's perception. Logos that effectively utilize negative space establish strong communication both conceptually and visually, fostering a deeper connection between the brand and its audience. Negative space maintains the integrity and hierarchy of the design, offering a balanced and impactful visual appearance on the logo. Within the scope of this study, the importance of brand and branding processes is addressed, along with an examination of the definitions and components of brand and visual identity design. Furthermore, the concept of negative space in graphic design is explored in detail, and the logo designs of various brands utilizing negative space have been analyzed. In this framework, sample brand logos designed during the research are presented, providing an evaluation of the effective use of negative space in design.
