LOCAL AREA DIFFERENTIAL GPS PRECISION APPROACH AND POST-PROCESS APPLICATION (M.Sc.Thesis) Rıdvan Faruk ÖZENÇ GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY JUNE 2003 ABSTRACT Aircrafts need precision approach and landing systems for safely landing especially in unsuitable meteorological conditions. When the half of aircraft accidents occurred in the approaching and landing phases are considered, it is seen that different landing systems and applications have been in use in airports, in order to both reduce the aircraft accidents and apply the precision approach and landing systems. Precision approach and landing systems, namely ILS, MLS, TLS, SLS, GCA/PAR, which are commonly used in the airports, are examined at the beginning of this study and the advantages and disadvantages are given. The main contribution in this work is the post-process application of DGPS precision approach and landing system and comparison of this system with ILS. According to results, it can be stated that the DGPS satellite based precision approach and landing system can be used for CAT-I approaches in local area of Ankara's airfields.
