Design of a local wind plant

The power of the wind has been utilized for at least 3000 years. Wind energy first used for boat navigation on the Nil river 5000 BC. During the same period, windmills pumped water in China. The first written information on wind turbines is based on a simple structural horizontal axis wind turbine. It is known that the Persians used vertical axis wind turbines during 700 BC. Windmills are introduced to the western world at the beginning of the 12th century from Islamic world. During this century, Abou-1 Iz who lived in Diyarbakır, Turkey, developed the first modern vertical wind turbine. Until the early 20th century wind power is used to provide mechanical power to pump water or to grind cereals.In 1891. the Dane. Poul LaCour built the first windturbine generated electricity. Towards the beginning of the 21st centuries, interest has risen in new and renewable energy (RE) sources especially wind energy for electricity generation. Our life is directly related to energy and its consumption, and the issues of energy research are extremely important. Wind energy is welcomed by society and industry as a clean, economical and environmentally friendly alternative. As a result of extensive studies on this topic, wind energy has recently been applied in various industries, and it started to compete with other energy resources. In this thesis, wind energy for electricity generation was reviewed for Elazığ region.
