Özet (EN)

The aim of the study is to investigate the effects of different taping materials and techniques on pain, functionality and tissue temperature in lumbal radiculopathy patients. 51 volunteer patients who were diagnosed with lumbal radiculopathy between the ages of 18 and 50, were participated in this study. Patients were divided into three groups as kinesio taping group, the athletic taping group and the placebo taping group. Visual analog scale was used to assess the severity of pain felt during activity and rest. Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire and Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire were used to assess the functionality and quality of life. Regional tissue temperature was measured before and after application by digital electronic infrared thermograph. After 10 days of intervention, all groups were showed statistically improved pain, functional status and quality of life (p ˂ 0.05). Kinesyo taping group was found more effective in terms of pain and functionality (p ˂ 0.05). Local tissue temperature was not different kinesio taping group before and after treatment (p>0.05), while athletic and placebo taping group had an increase (p ˂ 0.05). As a result, kinesyo taping and athletic taping are an approach that can be used in patients with lumbal radiculopathy. The addition of kinesio taping or athletic taping practices to physiotherapy programs improve pain, functionality, and quality of life. However, given its adherence to tissue and ease of use, kinesio taping may be a more appropriate choice for treatment in patients with lumbal radiculopathy. Key words: low back pain, kinesio tape, quality of life, skin temperature, physiotherapy
