Urban transformation projects in Turkey focus especially on the areas that have the ownership or spatial issues, therefore the gecekondu areas are touched by these projects. Gecekondu areas inhabitants own a background full of urban social movements; they have a lot of experiments so that the most efficient movements against the urban transformation projects are observed in these kind of neighborhoods.Gecekondu areas inhabitants describe urban transformation projects as ?non participative?, ?non focused on inhabitants? and they oppose against them in different ways informal or juridical. These movements become more and more visible in the Istanbul urban area.In this context, this dissertation is subject to analyze the specifications of the urban social movement in Istanbul against the urban transformation. The groups which are against the urban transformation are many, the nongovernmental organizations, university students, academics, international organizations are against the projects, but we focus on neighborhoods inhabitants who are influenced by the projects directly. In this dissertation, we focus on organized movements of the city inhabitants. The gecekondu inhabitants are the research object of this dissertation.
