Abstract (EN)

My master thesis named ?According to M. 1903 (H. 1321) Year?s Sâlnâme to the Province of Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefîd? consists of the transcription of the last yearbook of Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefid dating C. 1903 (H. 1321 ) and the assessment of the province?s economic, social, demographic and cultural strucure. The datum in the Sâlnâme( yearbook) at the issue reveals many of the subjects related to the province of Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefîd. My master thesis makes up six parts. The first part gives information about yearbooks and Sâlnâmes of Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefîd. Second part consists of the geographical position of the province and the establishment of the Turk's sovereignty on the Aegean Islands.Third part comprises the administrative structure of Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefîd in 1903. The fourth part studies economic condition of the Province of Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefîd. The fifth part examines the demographic, social, cultural structure of Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefîd according to Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefîd Sâlnâme (yearbook) dating C. 1903. In the sixth part the transcription of Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefîd Sâlnâme (yearbook) is given. It is seen that the Ottoman gouverment had appointed to the province administration the super administrators, who were experienced and well-educated Muslims, because of its importance. Yet, it is seen that non-muslims took office and survived under the Ottoman administration's tolerance. It is also observed that the Ottomans carried out the measures determinated by the Tanzimat (Reforms) and Meşrutiyet (Constitutional) Periods. As most of the islands consisting the Province of Cezâyir-i Bahr-i Sefîd were not suitable for agriculture, the people engaged in various daily breads. Although there were migrated from Anatolia after the Conquest, the Greek were generally more in the demographical structure.
