Abstract (EN)
An Investigation of Maçka (Meryemana ) Medos Limestone Quarry In Point of Agregate The study submitted in this thesis which was carried out about as 22 'km2 area at Altındere district on the Maçka - Meryemana high way. Three types of formations have been observed in this area. These are classified from old to new as follows: Hamurkesen formation, Berdiga Formation» Çatak Formation. Granodioritic intrusive rocks and dasit dykes which interrups them are also observed. Andes i t - basalt lava and pyroc lasts known as Hamurkesen Formation are dark gr^y and their weathered sections are yellowish grey. Berdiga Formation which is comformably overlain the Hamurkesen Formation, consists of cristallised grey limestones. Çatak Formation is made up of andesit - basalt lavas, pyroclasts and also uncomformably overlain on the Berdiga Formation. Berdiga Formation have been investigated in it's agregate point of view and the physical and mechanical properties of the formation have been determined in the laboratory. The laboratory tests have been carried out on limestone cores which are parallel and perpendicular to budding plane and the following physical properties have been found out: unit volume weight, porosity, water absortion, density, sonic velocity. The mechanical properties of the rock samples are as follows: uniaxial and tensile strength of the cores, point load index, dynamic elastic modulus etc. Shear strength and cohesion of the limestone samples have been attained by means of mohr envelopes. Consequently, abrasivity strength has been calculated by Los Angeles and Dory abravity strength tests. Limestone could be classified as 'Highly Resistant' according to uniaxial compressive strength and point load index results as 'Very Compact' according to porosity results. Internal friction angle and cohesion have both been determined by triaxial compressive strengt tests in dry and saturated conditions. The results are as follows: 0=57" and c=220 kg cm2 for dry samples, 0=53" and c=200 kg cm2 for saturated samples. Abrasivity tests showed % 20.7 abrasivity index value.
