Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the vestibular system in individuals with substance abuse. Material and Method: This research was carried out with substance addicted individuals between the ages of 18-40 who applied to the Psychiatry Clinic at Malatya İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center Audiology Clinic between January 2021 and November 2021. The sample of the study was determined as 34 for both groups as a result of the power analysis. Demographic Data Form, Dizziness Handicap Inventory, Addiction Profile Index Screening Form, bedside examination tests, Video Head Impulse Test, Videonystagmography test, Cervical Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials and Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials Test were applied to the individuals participating in the study. Results: A moderately positive and statistically significant relationship was found between the frequency of substance use, cravings and total score in the BAPI-T of the individuals in the case group participating in the study and the physical, functional and total scores in the BDEE (p<0.05). A statistically significant difference was found between the case group and the control group in the tandem gait, fucuda, diadokinesia, finger nose, gaze, saccade, pursuit and optokinetic results (p<0.05). A statistically significant difference was found between the case group and the control group in terms of lateral, anterior and posterior SSC gain values, lateral, RALP, LARP asymmetry values and saccade incidence rates (p<0.05). According to c-VEMP and o-VEMP wave presence ratios, P1 latency, P1-N1 interlatency, P1-N1 amplitude and asymmetry values in the c-VEMP test, and N1-P1 interlatency, N1-P1 amplitude and asymmetry values in the o-VEMP test. A statistically significant difference was found between the group and the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result of our study, vestibular system effects were observed in individuals using substance. Keywords: Dizziness, Balance, Substance abuse, Vestibular
