Abstract (EN)
Aim: This research is to determine the effect of motivational interviews based on the transtheoretic model on people with substance use disorder on self-efficacy and belief perception. Material and Method: The research was conducted as a pretest-posttest control group experimental model. The universe of research was carried out with individuals who were found to have used substances by the judicial authorities in the Probation Directorate in the city center of Şırnak and the Cizre Probation Directorate. The research was conducted between December 2021 and January 2023. A total of 46 obliged parties, 23 of which were in the experimental group and 23 in the control group, participated in the study. A motivational interview program based on the transtheoretic model was applied to the people in the experimental group. Socio-demographic Characteristics Questionnaire, Self-Efficacy-Efficacy Scale and Belief Scale for Substance Use were used to collect data. Results: 69.6% of the individuals in the experimental group were between the ages of 18-35, and 95.7% were men. When the control group is examined; 82.6% of the individuals in the group were between the ages of 18-35, and 95.7% were men. While the mean self-efficacy total score of the individuals in the experimental group was 83.39±13.13 before the intervention, there was a statistically significant difference between them by showing a significant increase of 91.43±11.17 after the intervention (p˂0.05). After the motivational interview based on the transtheoretic model applied to the individuals in the experimental group; While the pre-test total means a score of the Belief Scale towards Substance Use was 42.30±22.42, the post-test mean score showed a significant decrease of 25.52±7.56, and a statistically significant difference was found between them (p<.0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that the motivational interview method based on the transtheoretic model was effective in increasing the self-efficacy of individuals with substance use disorder and increasing their beliefs about quitting substances. It may be suggested to include motivational interview programs when interviewing obliged individuals within the scope of probation.
