Abstract (EN)
Objective: This study was conducted to investigate of the emotional awareness and self-control levels of individuals with substance use disorders with various variables. Method: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted between July 2019 and November 2020 at Alcohol and Substance Abuse Research and Application Center (AMBAUM) of Akdeniz University Medical School. The sample universe was determined by the known sampling method and a total of 144 people who received implant treatment and completed detox treatment were included in the study. 139 of the individuals with substance use disorder are male, the average age is 28.53, the age of starting to use substances is 18.41. The data were collected using "Personal Information Form", "Emotional Awareness Scale" and "Brief Self-Control Scale". Results: The emotional awareness level of individuals with substance use disorder is is determined to be 50.31 points on average, and their self-control level is 28.73 points on average. The emotional awareness score of 85.4% of the individuals and the self-control score of 81.2% were found to be low. While there is no statistically significant difference between the emotional awareness levels of the participants according to their individual characteristics (p> .05), It was found that there is a statistically significant difference between the levels of self-control in terms of educational status, employment status, income level, self-injurious behavior and suicidal attempts (p <.05). It was found that there is a very weak, negatively significant relationship between the emotional awareness level and the self-control level. (r = -.17, p <.05). Conclusion: Individuals with substance use disorders have low levels of emotional awareness and self-control. There is a negative relationship between emotional awareness and self-control. It is recommended to plan interventions to increase emotional awareness and self-control and improve emotion management in these individuals .
