On this paper, 'the relationship between self esteem and attachment styles in persons with a history of substance misuse' has been researched. The sociodemographic variables on this research has been chosen as marital status, educational qualifications, parental background, family relationships, intrafamily violence and crime history. The sample unit for this research consists of 277 adult males, sentenced for drug abuse to 'probation and treatment' in Karsiyaka Probation Support Center. In this research, self esteem and its sub-dimensions have been measured using Rosenberg self-esteem scale, RSES and attachment styles have been measured through Experiences in Close Relationships (ECR) questionnaire. Sociodemographic features have been collected using a personal details form. The findings of this research shows a significant statistical correlation between the self esteems of persons with a history of substance misuse and attachment styles. In accordance with the second aim of the research, it has been examined if any significant difference appears between attachment styles and self esteem and its sub-dimensions through the chosen sociodemographic variables; marital status, educational qualifications, parental background, family relationships, intrafamily violence and crime history. It has been detected that self esteem and attachment styles, the dimensions of anxiety and social inhibition shows significant relation to intrafamily violence and personal crime history.
