Maddetü'l Hayat (Analysis-text-index)

This study is based on Maddetü?l Hayat by Akşemseddin, a medicine prose dating back to the XV. century. The issue of manuscript that we studied is registired in Topkapı Sarayı Müzesi Treasure as 552 number in this library. Also we found four other copies in many other libraries. This book consists of seventy pages. The main issue of this book contains medicine which concerns every part of society. Also this study would be useful and can be a good referance for researchers who study Turkish Linguistics. This book includes a rich vocabulary about vocabularies about chemstry, medicine, pharmacy and botanic.The study consists of three parts : language features, the text and the index-dictionary. The introduction discusses medicine range in the fifteenth centruy, the creations of Akşemseddin and Maddetü?l hayat?s copies and extents.Language analysis is based on the differences found in the text considering the modern Turkish language characteristics. These characteristics are analysed in terms of orthography, phonology and morphology. The orthographic analysis includes how vowels and consonants are written in text providing examples. Phonologic analysis, on the other hand, includes the sound changes and vowel harmony found in the text. These are then compared to the modern Turkish. Morphologic analysis relates notably to the phonetical forms that differ from Turkey Turkish. Index includes all the words which are contextually categorized.
