Abstract (EN)

In this thesis study, the performance of the new type of multi directional friction seismic damping device, which was developed to minimize loss of life, structural damage and financial loss caused by the devastating impact of the earthquake, was determined by using theoretical and experimental methods. Firstly, the finite element model of the designed damper device was created, and convergence analysis was performed on the model to obtain the optimal number of mesh elements. Reaction force - displacement graphs were obtained for each loading situation by giving prestressing forces of different magnitudes to the bolt elements on the device. After the studies on the finite element model, the graph obtained was found to be hysterical. Before the experiments, the selection of the steel materials used in the damping device was made based on the stresses obtained from the finite element analysis. A total of 5 push and pull tests were carried out at different speeds to the compressed damping device at different prestress loads by using the loading frame in Ege University Civil Engineering construction laboratory. After the experiments, reaction - displacement graphs showed the same behavior at different frequencies. It was seen that the bolt prestress-reaction force graphs obtained after finite elements and experiments were similar in 93.87%. In order to see the behavior of the damper on the structure, two identical structures with and without damping devices were analyzed and the roof displacements and periods of the structures were compared. Damage levels in the structures were compared by pushover analysis. It was determined that the damper device decreased the period and displacement levels and significantly increased the building performance. As a result of this study, Joint featured friction type seismic damper can be said to be an effective device for controlling the structure behavior after earthquake.
