Özet (EN)
Manisa, one of the cities in Western Anatolia has a rich cultural heritage. Founded on a part of Gediz Plain, Manisa, with a lot of mounds found, has a settlement history dating back to Neolithic Period. Today?s Manisa takes its name from Magnesia City founded on North slopes of Spil Mountain (Sipylos). City named as Magnesia on Sipylos is today on Topkale Slope, South of Manisa, on highest place of slope; Sandıkkale Hill. There is not much archaeological remains to see on this place today where no excavations has been made. Most striking remains are Late Byzantium city walls and of vaulted room. Late Byzantium City Walls consist of two parts. First part is the one surrounding Sandıkkale which is the acropolis in antiquity. Second part is the outer walls surrounding lower city from 3 sides. Important information is known about most important structures of the city; theater and the stadium. A few pieces of ceramics found on settlement level shows us that the settlement here didn?t start in Hellenistic Period as it was thought but it started in the beginning of Iron Age. Both topographical and archaeological remains on surface also a small amount of artifacts scattered to different museums indicate that Magnesia City was an important metropolis in the region
