Abstract (EN)
Aim: Functional neurosurgery is one of the fastest growing areas of neurosurgery. However, complications are encountered which are not negligible during the operations. Purpose in this study; to calculate and compare the volumes of lentiform nuclei by making an anatomical section first radiologically in the cadaveric specimens and to evaluate the results in terms of functional neurosurgical procedures performed in the coexistence of sterotaxia. Materyal ve metods: In this study, 13 adult brain cadavers were used. First, 2 mm sections were obtained with MRI for the shots. Measurements of lentiform nuclei were performed on the images obtained. Then, the specimens detected by embedding the agar were cut in 4 mm thickness on the coronal plane with the microtome. The sections were portrayed by scanning on a skenogram. The volume of lentiform nuclei in the cadaveric specimens was calculated. Metrics compared. Results: On MRI, the mean lentiform nuclei volumes on the right and left hemispheres were found to be 5821,4±590,5 mm3 and 5781,8±723,5 mm3 respectively. The mean volumes of the cadaveric sections were 5503,4±595,5 mm3 on the right side and 5332,3±599,7 mm3 on the left hemisphere. No statistically significant difference was found between the volume calculated from MRI and that obtained from the cadaveric section (p<0.001). On MRI, it was determined that the volumes of the right and left lentiform nuclei were similar, and there was no significant difference (p=0.681). It was determined that the volumes of the right and left lentiform nuclei obtained as a result of the cadaveric section were similar, and there was no significant difference (p=0.069). Conclusion: This study shows a correlation between measurement of lentiform nucleus volume based on MRI and those calculated from anatomical sections. Our findings support the reliability of fonctional neurosurgical procedures using MRI and stereotactic method.
