Makhtumkuli and metaphor in his works

Metaphor is the process of intellectual understanding that connects the inner world and reality. It exists as a way of expression and a way of speaking in almost every cognitive process from our daily communication life to the transfer of intellectual accumulation. The fact that we perceive the outside world with the conceptual dimension of words has led researchers to analyze the nature of metaphor. This situation has brought metaphor to a privileged point as the study area and sub-discipline of cognitive semantics. Cognitive approach to metaphor with contributions from cognitive linguists, anthropologists and poets led by psychologists; brought a new dimension to research in the field of social sciences. As a matter of fact, modern metaphorological studies under the umbrella of cognitive linguistics have focused on semantic and pragmatic analyzes with the joint efforts of psychologists and social scientists. The data obtained in the study called "Metaphor in Makhtumkuli Works", which is based on a cognitive science field survey, was evaluated in a process from perception to interpretation. The first part of the work, which consists of three main parts, is devoted to the biography of the poet. It should be especially noted that; New information and poems that escaped attention were reached about the institutions where the poet was educated, his classmates and teachers. In the second part, theoretical information is given, the general situation of metaphor studies and different perspectives are discussed. The definition of metaphor science, its field of study, theories, criteria and methods used in classification are stated. In the third part of the thesis, metaphorical findings are evaluated in the light of the metaphor extraction technique proposed by Gerald Zaltman and his team, as well as the contemporary metaphor theory developed and shaped by the work of George Lakoff and Mark Johnson, or conceptual metaphor theory as it is called in the literature.
