Comprehension of machinery safety, assessment of occupational work accident and solution suggestions

The process of mechanization which has been started with 19th century Industrial revolution, has become an important part of our lives in our country with the technological progress. As a result of this process, accidents caused by machines have become economic and social burden on government. When the accidents were analysed on the basis of the sector types, metal industry including manufacturing sector has statically highest rate. As using of machinery increases, the number of occupational work accidents also increases at a great rate too. It is necessary to observe the standards and important to take the protective precautions. In this study safe distances, mechanical guard equipment, protective precautions of manufacturing methods like turning machine, milling machine, press machine, guillotine shears, metal sewing machine, drilling machine and welding machine which are used frequently in metal industry sector have been given with the frame of European Standards. In order to evaluate these manufacturing and guarding methods in practice, a survey was made with the employees of a manufacturing company which is named Eskasan A.Ş. and the results were evaluated within the scope of this thesis With the development of technology, new precautions are being taken day by day to prevent the accidents that are accelerated with the process of mechanization. In this direction, developments which are made on behalf of the management and supervision ensure sharing of responsibilities and strengthen control mechanism for health and safety at work. Responsibilities, precautions, and necessities about the work and machinery safety have been indicated with the aim of changing and reducing the work accidents significantly.
