Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to investigate the anatomical structure of the kidneys of Aksaray Malaklı dogs. For this purpose, 10 (5 female, 5 male) Aksaray Malaklı dogs that died of various reasons were used. After measuring the length, width and thickness of the kidneys excised from the abdominal cavity, 2 pairs (2 right, 2 left) were kept in 10% formaldehyde solution for 48 hours and a longitudinal section was made from the renal hilus of the kidneys to reveal the cortex and medulla. Corrosion cast technique was applied to the other 8 pairs (8 right, 8 left) kidneys to reveal the arteries, veins and ureters. The length and diameter of the renal arteries and veins were measured with an electronic caliper and then photographed. The kidneys were found to be flat unipapillary type and bean shaped, as a pair on the right and left of the columna vertebral. The right kidney was observed to be at the level of the 1st-3rd lumbar vertebrae, while the left one was slightly further back at the level of the 2nd-4th lumbar vertebrae. The measurements showed that the length of the kidney was 79.49 ± 10.26 mm, its width was 46.37±5.35 mm, and its thickness was 39.21±0.74 mm.It was determined that the renal arteries feeding the kidney originate from both sides of the abdominal aorta and extend towards the renal hilum, and that the right renal artery originates slightly more cranial than the left. It was determined that the right and left renal arteries course towards the hilum of the kidney and divide into dorsal and ventral branches, and that these branches give off the arteria interlobaris, arteria arcuata and arteria interlobularis, respectively, thus providing nutrition to the kidney. In the measurements, it was determined that the average diameter of the renal arteries was 4.18±0.85 mm, the average diameter of the ramus dorsalis was 2.90±0.68 mm, and the average diameter of the ramus ventralis was 3.37±0.5 mm. It was determined that the renal arteries reached the hilum of the kidney after an average course of 39.7±8.26 mm from their origin. In this study, it was observed that the dorsal branch divided into 4-6 interlobar arteries and the ventral branch divided into 6-8 interlobar arteries. It was determined that the veins of the kidney originate from the vena cava caudalis as the right and left renal vein, and that these veins later divide into two branches, unlike the arteries, the vena lobaris cranialis and the vena lobaris caudalis. These branches then divide into the venae interlobaris, venae arcuata and venae interlobularis, respectively, and collect the dirty blood of the kidney. The average diameter of the right renal vein was measured as 7.56±0.62 mm, the average diameter of the left renal vein was measured as 8.44±0.56 mm, the average diameter of the dorsal branches was measured as 5.37±0.36 mm, and the ventral branch was measured as 6.54±0.67.
