Özet (EN)

The aim of our study is to investigate the effects of cholera epidemic on the Sanjak of Malatya and its damages. The study consists of three parts. In the first chapter, the process of spreading cholera from India is explained. In this section, the ways in which cholera infects the Ottoman Empire and the status of the Sanjak of Malatya during the cholera epidemic are discussed. In the second part, the measures taken by the state against cholera epidemic and methods of protection from cholera are mentioned. These measures enabled the state to see the shortcomings in the infrastructure and to try to correct them. Reconstruction of waterways in accordance with human health, attention to environmental cleanliness and innovations in the field of health have played an important role in the fight against cholera. In the third part, the attitude of the people to cholera disease and its reaction to the prevention methods are explained. What kind of solutions the state has found and how it has solved this issue are discussed. The measures and protection methods taken by the state were respected only in the period of illness, and after the disease had gone out, the old order was restored. For this reason, positive results have disappeared with the return of hygiene and personal hygiene practices to inadequate and unhealthy form and caused cholera to become epidemic again in the Ottoman Empire.
