In nonmalign sputum, cytologic differences between smokers and nonsmokers

ÖZET 1992-1995 yıllan arasında D.Ü. Tıp Fakültesi Patoloji Anabilim Dalı'na gelen malign olmayan balgam yaymaları arasından sigara içen 300, sigara içmeyen 134 vakanın preparat ve raporları yeniden değerlendirildi. Her iki grup yedi sitolojik eleman yönünden araştırılıp birbirleriyle karşılaştırldı. Araştırılan metaplazik epitel, displazik epitel, kolumnar epitel hücresi, alveoler makrofaj, pigmente makrofaj, nötrofil ve mukus sigara içenlerde içmeyenlere oranla genel olarak daha fazla butumuştur. Yaşla paralel olarak sigara içenlerde pigmente makrofaj, mukus ve kolumnar epitel hücresi artış gösterdiği izlendi. SUMMARY In this study, the Department of Pathology of Medical Faculty, University of Dicle, during the years 1992-1995 inclusive reveal sputa collected from 300 cigarette smokers and 134 patients who never smoked. All cases didn't have any malign respiratory disease. Specifically, alveolar macrophages, pigmentation of macrophages, neutrophils, mucus, columnar cells, metaplastic cells, and dysplastic cells were analysed and compared in 300 smokers and 134 nonsmokers. Results indicate that smokers have significantly higher scores on all components than do nonsmokers. Age is associated significantly with pigmentation of macrofages, mucus, and columnar cells. 44
