Abstract (EN)
Changing and diversifying needs through evolution also led to improvement of materials used to resolve those needs. Like in all other scientific areas, this dynamism also led to improvements in material science. Nowadays, instead of "materials durable against environmental conditions", more contemporary approach supporting "materials which can adopt to environmental conditions" became more important. Smart material is another popular concept like sustainability, nano technology, biomimicry, and similar to the relationship of nano technology with the use of algie and titenium dioxide pigments, all these concepts show tight relationships. Although the concept of intelligent materials being new and evolving is making the classification difficult, the use the action-reaction parameters is a more common approach in its classification. One can also classify according to the location where it is used, based on its sensory properties, or being an activator or not. In this thesis, buildings utilizing intelligent materials are analysed based on the type of materials used, functionality of the materials, and its place within the matrix, and by comparing different classification methods Ghandi and Thompson's intelligent material matrix is chosen. Being inclusive to existing materials and being flexible to accept future materials also played an inportant role to choose this method, which collects "action-reaction" parameters within six-by-six matrix. In conclusion, intelligent materials supported by ever improving technological advancements are taking more and more roles in today's architectures, and leading to more opportunities to create safe, comfortable, durable, and more livable places.
