The effect of spiritual support service in hospitals on psycho-social adaptation according to spiritual support specialists

In today's world where people are increasingly lonely, the need to provide the needed support through professional means has emerged while going through difficult and troublesome processes. Especially in a process that comes face to face with death such as illness, people may experience various psychological, social and spiritual problems. As a requirement of holistic care, one of the service branches involved in providing morale and motivation in meeting the psychological, social and spiritual support that patients need during the treatment process is moral support service. Spiritual support service aims to accompany patients with religious/spiritual references in various problems experienced during the disease process. In this study, the role and effect of moral support service in the psycho-social adaptation of patients to the disease was tried to be examined. The research consists of two parts: theoretical and field research. In the first chapter, general information about religion, spirituality and spiritual counseling is given and various psycho-social problems seen during the disease process are discussed. In the second part, in the field research conducted with 24 moral support specialists working in hospitals in Ankara, Adana, Antalya, Bursa, Eskişehir and Istanbul, it was tried to determine to what extent the moral support service affects the adaptation processes of the patients. In the conclusion part, the findings obtained are summarized and suggestions that are thought to contribute are included.
