Investigation on beneficiation of manganese ore

The most important factors affecting the economy of all industrialized and developing countries are mining activities. The main purpose of these activities is to find the minerals needed by various industries and to meet the needs of the people. As it is known, some of the ores located above the ground or underground may be of high tenor, while low-grade ores are also available. High-grade ores can be sold to various industries using very simple methods. However, some reserves are not economically feasible since they are not suitable for the known industrial plant conditions. In the near or distant future, if the ores with high grade are reduced or depleted and low-grade minerals are needed for various reasons, these ores will need to be operated and enrichment plants will be needed to enrich these minerals. The manganese ores present in the manganese deposits in our country are not within the acceptable limits of Mn content and there is no possibility to use them directly. The manganese ore found in Turkey is a ferro-manganese (10-35% Mn) ores which can be evaluated in the metallurgical manganese ore group in general and constitutes a large part of the reserves. In general, the most widely used sector of manganese ore is the iron and steel industry with a ratio approaching 90-95%. A few are used in the chemical and battery industries. In this study, it was aimed to determine the concentration conditions for manganese production. A number of physical and chemical separation techniques for manganese ore have been investigated in this study. The optimum conditions for the beneficiation of the manganese ore with respect to the carried-out laboratory studies was revealed and reported.
