A thematic analysis of mânis

Mani, written and oral cultural product, is intensive text with emotions, thoughts and desires and individual and society are reflected in this text. Mani, which is a form of cultural memory, reflects the social and cultural structure of Turkish society and it takes an important place in Turkish literature. Mani, creates a spiral from individual to society and from specific to general, maintains its existence as living and active text with a psychological, philosophical and sociological depth. Mani, gains multifunctionality, expresses the love, longing, loyalty, reproach for lovers. At the same time, it carries out different tasks besides literary pleasure by explaining social and economic troubles and the shortcomings in management. Mani has its own unique features as structure, shape and style. While the verses are carefully selected, meaning is like a password by hiding among the words. Mani, created with simple and intensive verses in terms of style, has a folk speech. Symbolic items come to the foreground because the meaning is hidden in words. It is important to assimilate these symbolic items to reveal what is meant to be said. In this respect, the mani is like a pearl that embellishes our literature as it gives a literary taste to the reader and at the same time gives deep messages. The aim of the study is to reveal the meaning and the history of mani and the relation of mani with other literary genres and to make thematic analysis by analyzing the symbols in Anatolian mani. Anatolian mani was targeted in this study.
