Determination of antimicrobial activities of actinomycetes which isolated from farming soils by Manisa province of Turkey

ABSTRACT DETERMİNATİON OF ANTİMİCROBİAL ACTİVİTİES OF ACTİNOMYCETES WHİCH İSOLATED FROM FARMİNG SOİLS OF MANİSA PROVİNCE OF TURKEY OSKAY Mustafa Msc. in Biology Supervisor: Prof. Dr. A. Üsame Tamer 2002, January 50 Actinomycetes cultures were isolated from farming soils of Manisa Province. Antimicrobial activity were determined from 17 of 50 isolated cultures. Because of that, 8 isolates produce antimicrobial substances against only on Gr (+) bacteria, 3 isolates only against Gr (-) bacteria and last 6 isolates against both Gr (-) and Gr (+) bacteria. The most effective isolates on phytopathogen bacteria that selected as test organisms are isolate 3Ba3 (18 mm against on Agrobacterium tumefaciens, 15 mm against on Erwinia amylovora and 13 mm against on Pseudomonas viridiflova) and isolate 5C12 (26 mm against on E. amylovora, 18 mm against on Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis and 11 mm against on P. viridiflova') According to antimicrobial activity and spectrum broadness, seven isolates were selected and identified among 50 Actinomycetes cultures; The isolate 3Ba1 as Streptomyces antibioticus; the isolate 3Ba3 as Streptomyces rimosus; the isolate 5C12 as Streptomyces lavendulae; the isolate 1B19 as Streptomyces lydicus; the isolate 9B40 as Streptomyces phaeochromogenes; the isolate 1B49 as Streptomyces halstedii and the isolate 1QP50 as Streptomyces albus. Also, in this study antimicrobial effects of identified isolates on some yeasts and moulds were determined.
