Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to determine the prevalance of the low back pain, evaluate the causal factors of the low back pain and lead the studies to be done in order to prevent the low back pain in school children aged 11-14 years attending to the schools located in the Manisa city center. The population of the study was the students of the sixth, seventh and eighth classes of the primary schools located in the Manisa city center. This cross sectional study was conducted in the 38 classes of the schools which included a sample size of 1121 taken from 13 224 schoolers and selected using a stratified randomised sampling method.The data was collected by the structured questionaire involving the probable risk factors of the low back pain and measuring some variables of the researcher. The participation rate in the study was 91.08%.The prevalance of the low back pain in the long life time was 49.5%, the prevalance in the past month 38.2%, and the point prevalance 26.8%.The low back pain prevalance in the long life time was found to be high in the girl grup, in those with uneducated fathers, those sitting in uncomfortable seats in the classroom, lifting heavy objects, with previous injuries and in the presence of badly or moderately perceived health status .Prevalance of the last month?s low back pain was high in those interested in volleyball, sitting in unconfortable seats in the classroom, lifting heavy objects previously, having moderate perceived health status and having a weekly exercise schedule of 4-6 hour.Feeling comfortable in the classroom seats, finding school bag?s weight high, having moderate perceived health, interest in handball game are found to be related risk factors of the point low back pain prevalance.Low back pain is a gradually increasing symptom felt in the adolescent group, leading to decreased work force and loss of performance. It can be said that given the findings involved prophylactic procedures must be taken into account concerning low back pain in the adolescents.
