Abstract (EN)
Nowadays, sustainable with friendly produced energy is the most required by the governments from research centers. Is using wind energy by varieties of different types of turbines. It is prove as the cleanest, most reliable, supports growth and sustainability, and has no heat-trapping effect. Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) is the kind that dominates the large scale ones due to its relatively high efficiency comparing with the other type namely, Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT). However, the HAWT disadvantage is that the horizontal axis, which is subjected to a high bending load, causes relatively higher maintenance costs. Additionally, VAWT is more appropriate for installation in small-scale and in urban areas due to its capability to run under turbulent wind stream conditions. From the other side, the disadvantage of the VAWT is that it is less efficient due to the negative role for some blades running in the opposite wind-direction. However, in this work, an attempt has been made to overcome that drawback by varying the Angle of Attack (AOA) of the vertically positioned blades. To achieve the AOA variation, a mechanism has been added, so it should allow the blade to rotate about its own axis under the effect of the aerodynamics force, without any need for external power based on its rotational position relative to the free stream. An aerodynamic analysis has been done theoretically by FEM methods. İn order to validate the applicability and performance improvement, a model from the composite material has been manufactured in the in-house workshop, afterward it has been tested under a different range of wind speed and various style of turbulent wind, for comparing the results and study the effect of AOA variation.
