The phenomenon of emptiness in landscape painting and its relationship with the artist's temperament

The most general motivation of artistic production is expressed as creativity and imagination. Regardless of the branch of art, the artist uses his work as another form of expression of a meaning. Sometimes everything is as it seems, sometimes the story that is wanted to be told and shown is hidden in the subtexts. The production process and methods can change in each branch of art, but the resulting work expresses an idea on its own. Painting occurs on a two-dimensional plane as a method. In this wide journey from cave walls to gallery walls, painting has undergone a constant change in terms of method and thought. In the first part, the historical process of landscape painting has been investigated and it has been concluded that the inner tendencies of the artists often dominate the whole of the works they make. Thus, due to brush strokes, color and composition selections, materials and methods used in production, it is thought that artists can produce as many different and unique works as possible from each other. Considering that personal temperament had an effect on the artwork produced, the relationship between the artist and melancholy and temperament was investigated in the second part. Many factors such as scientific, political, and economic events, social environment, family problems, wars and migrations play a major role in the artist's temperament when the painting was produced. The research shows that the phenomenon of emptiness in landscape painting and the artist's melancholic mood are closely related. Keywords: Nature, Landscape painting, Melancholy, Temperament
