A research on determination of agronomic and technological characters and relations among these characters of cotton varieties (Gossypium hirsitum L.) grown as second crop under the Mardin/Derik ecological conditions

This study was conducted in the town of Derik, Mardin province to determine suitable second crop cotton varieties to the region. The experiment was set in a randomized complete block design with three replications in Derik ecological condition. Primera, Fantom, Nazilli NCCH 8/1, Nazilli NMCHBC-1/4, BA mig 119, DP 388, Stoneville 373 and Stoneville 453 cotton cultivars (Gossypium hirsutum L.) were used as plant materials.In the study, investigated plant height, number of sympodial branches, number of monopodial branches, number of boll per plant, percentage of first picking, seed cotton yield, seed cotton weight per boll, ginning percentage, 100 seed weight, fiber fineness, fiber elongation, fiber strength, fiber length, couns strenght produet and short fiber index properties were found significant at statistical level, whereas investigated fiber uniformity were not found significant.Fantom and Nazilli NCCH 8/1 in terms of seed cotton yield; Nazilli NMCHBC-1/4 and Fantom in terms of percentage of first picking; Nazilli NMCHBC-1/4, Primera, Nazilli NCCH 8/1 and DP 388 in terms of ginning percentage; Stoneville 373 and Stoneville 453 in terms of 100 seed weight; BA mig 119, Stoneville 373, Fantom and DP 388 in terms of fiber elongation; DP 388, Primera and Nazilli NCCH 8/1 in terms of fiber fineness; BA mig 199, Primera, DP 388 and Fantom in terms of fiber strength; Stoneville 373 and Fantom in terms of fiber length; DP 388, BA mig 119, Stoneville 373, Primera, Stoneville 453 and Fantom in terms of fiber uniformity; Nazilli NCCH 8/1, Nazilli NMCHBC- 1/4, Primera and BA mig 119 in terms of short fiber index; Primera in terms of elongation; Stoneville 373, BA mig 119, Fantom and Nazilli NMCHBC- 1/4 in terms of couns strenght produet cotton cultivars showed high feature in comparison with the other cultivars in the study
