Examination and analysis of stone degradation of facades of madrasas in mardin with xrf spectrometer

This study discusses the degradation that occurred on the exterior facades of the madrasah buildings in the province of Mardin. The deteriorations determined by visual analysis were examined by the facade mapping method and XRF chemical analysis method. In these investigations, the effects of the degradation that occur on the structures are mentioned in certain categories. The study consists of five chapters in total. The first section is literature review. In the second part, literature academic reviews related to the subject are mentioned, the history, climatic and geographical conditions of the province of Mardin were examined. In the third part of the study, information about the material and method is provided. Under the same title, the history, location and architectural features of the madrasahs are mentioned. The deteriorations determined by visual analysis were examined by the facade mapping method and XRF chemical analysis method. In this chapter, information explaining the methods used in the analysis is given. The fourth part of the study includes the findings and discussion section. In this section, the concept of decay is defined and the degradation in madrasahs is discussed. After the analysis, the degradation in the structure has been handled by using facade mapping and XRF chemical analysis method. The deterioration that occurs on the exterior of the buildings is examined and categorized as physical, chemical, biological and human effects. By using the mapping method on the facade, the deterioration that occurs on the exterior of the buildings has been shown. Chemical changes occurring from the damaged stones in the structures were investigated by using XRF chemical analysis method. In the fifth part of the study, the results and recommendations obtained from the study are stated.
