Abstract (EN)

In this study, the environmental effects on forming traditional housing, especially on forming the characteristics of the Traditional Housing of Mardin have been analyzed. It is generally known that traditional structures built in accordance with climate, preserve their sustainability for a long time. In this thesis, the strategies that make possible the sustainability of the Traditional Mardin Housing have been established. This thesis consists six parts. In the first part, the introduction part, general information related to the thesis, has been given. In the second part, the source summaries, recently studies related to the topic, have been included. The building survey and restitution drawings of Traditional Mardin Housing, related to designing criteria like climate, topography, orientation etc., art history essays, interviews with the local architects that are experts on topic, written and visual sources, the thesis on YÖK Thesis System, books, magazines and articles, Internet data have been used. In the third part, the materials and methods of the study have been mentioned. In the fourth part, findings and discussions have been explained. From the fieldwork performed in Mardin province, three qualified and authentic housings of The Traditional Mardin Housing have been selected and their designing criteria have been explained. Besides, the typology related to "abbara" the concept belonging to the street texture of Mardin, has been presented. Detailed information about the topic has been given through photography, observation, interviews with the relevant people. In the fifth part, the results and suggestions belonging to the attained findings have been included. As a result of this study, it has been deduced that dozens of climatic strategies has been developed for making use of and protecting the Traditional Mardin Housing from the nature events. In this study, it has been aimed that climatic comfort elements and climatic strategies found in the Traditional Mardin Housing to generate data for the new buildings to be designed.
